Frequently asked questions
I have wall jacks in my apartment I've never used. Can you get them working?
Yes, in most modern apartments the wiring runs back to a central spot, and I can usually get those jacks working from there. I'll need to test them first to see what's actually live, but in a lot of units it's a quick activation rather than any new wiring.
My Wi-Fi is slow in some rooms. Do I need new equipment or can you just fix it?
Could be either, and I won't know until I look. I can come out and do a network assessment to find where it's actually breaking down. Sometimes it's a setting or placement issue I can fix on the spot, and sometimes it's aging equipment that's worth replacing. Either way you'll get a straight answer on what's going on and what it'll cost before I do anything.
How do I know when it's time to replace my router or other network gear?
A good rule of thumb is every 3 to 5 years. Network equipment doesn't usually die all at once, it just falls behind. After a few years the hardware can't keep up with faster internet plans or newer devices, security updates stop coming, and you start seeing slowdowns and dropouts that no amount of rebooting fixes. If your gear is in that 3-to-5-year range and giving you trouble, it's usually worth upgrading rather than chasing the problem. If it's newer than that, there's often a simpler fix first.
Why should I hire you instead of a big company or calling my internet provider?
When you call me, you get me. I'm a network engineer running this myself, so the person you talk to on the phone is the same person who shows up and does the work. Your internet provider will usually just confirm the signal reaches your place and stop there. A big company might send whoever's free that day. I handle the whole job start to finish, and I'd rather fix what you've got or upgrade only what actually needs it than sell you things you don't need
